I am sorry I have been absent from this site for awhile. We now have synergy figured out enough to give you grades and the new level system figured out enough to help our students through it. 🙂
Speaking of the new level system…we are almost through our first month. The students are starting to take responsibility more and more. It is fun to watch them grab a calculator to add up their points. All of our “rewards” are based on a discussion we had with all of our students at the beginning of October. There is lots of “buy-in” at this point especially for the “Citizenship” level where they don’t have to carry point sheets any more! We handed out a brief explanation at parent conferences. If you lost your copy or didn’t receive one, I have attached it as a page at the top of this site.
In general, we have a few things coming up this next week.
Oct 28 start of city league basketball for boys 7th and 8th
Oct 29 all school dance from 2:15-4:00
Oct 31 students can wear black/orange but no costumes
Nov 1 Character counts rewards party for kids on Responsibility level or higher
We are starting to see a routine forming…finally! Schedule adjustments, sleep schedules, teacher expectations and unusually high temperatures have created a rather chaotic environment on some days. Our kids did great adjusting and learning about flexibility.
This week we will be continuing with the character pillar of “RESPONSIBILITY”. Please help us out by asking your child to see their assignment book and homework folder. We are working on these important tools to organize our day.
Clubs are starting. Would your child be interested in art club on Mondays, computer club on Thursdays or Student Council starting on Sept 17th? Clubs last until about 3:15. Students then go to the media center and work or read quietly until the activity bus pick-up at 4:00 or you can pick them up.
Practice is our new improved word for the bad word, “homework.” We offer practice club at HBMS on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays until 4:00pm. Our Oasis team also offers OPC (Oasis Practice Club) on Tuesdays until 4:00 in room 215 with direct instruction taking place.
Please feel free to email or call any time if you have needs, concerns or joys to report!
This is a site where you can access my lessons for the day, links to other teachers and see general information for Oasis students. All of our HBMS staff have their own websites. You can go to the District 47 website, then to Hannah Beardsley Middle School and click on the staff member you would like to get information from. Many teachers put notes, literary sheets, current event directions and assignments on their sites. If your child is in Oasis but attends a general education class, the information will be under the general education teacher’s site. I am trying to link to every teacher we work with but I am “under construction” currently. 🙂
Some general things to be thinking about:
Did you buy a yearbook? At the end of the year kids are really sad who don’t have one.
Parent Night – September 10th, details on HBMS website
Monday, Tuesday & Thursday are homework club days and activity bus days for HBMS.
On Tuesdays starting Sept 10, I will be offering an Oasis Homework Club from 2:15-4:00.
